The cartridge is received in a canister attached to a brush head stem in which a passage is formed. The piston forces a quantity of the dentifrice through a supply tube in the cartridge to the passage that connects to an aperture in the brush head. A normally closed valve in the passage controls the flow of the dentifrice. The piston can be removed for refilling the cartridge with the dentifrice.
