...that while attempting to develop a super strong glue, 3M employee Spencer Silver accidentally developed a glue that was so weak it would barely hold two pieces of paper together? However, his colleague Art Fry needed the glue. Fry sang with his church choir and marked the pages of his hymnal with small scraps of paper that often fell out. He used Silver's glue to hold the papers in place. Today we call this invention Post-it Notes.

AbstractAn information handling system comprising a processor, a battery to provide power to the information handling system, an AC adapter input port coupled to the battery configured to receive an AC adapter, and a battery charger coupled to the battery and the AC adapter input port configured to identify a characteristic of the AC adapter and adjust a battery charge current based upon the characteristic. The battery charger comprises an adapter identification subsystem coupled to the AC adapter input port configured to identify the characteristic and provide an adjustment current, and an adjustable charger coupled to the adapter identification subsystem and the battery, configured to set the battery charging current based upon the adjustment current. The AC adapter identification subsystem comprises an adapter identification circuit coupled to the AC adapter input port configured to identify the characteristic, and a microcontroller configured to provide the adjustment current to the adjustable charger. | InventorsApplicationNo. 10077468 filed on 02/15/2002US Classes:713/340, Having power source monitoring320/162, With detection of current or voltage amplitude320/106, MEANS TO IDENTIFY CELL OR BATTERY TYPE307/64, Substitute or emergency source320/128, With charging710/301, Card insertion700/22, Electrical power distribution361/679For electronic systems and devicesField of Search320/162, With detection of current or voltage amplitude713/340Having power source monitoringExaminersPrimary: Lee, Thomas C.Assistant: Wang, Albert Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References5162721, Electronic system to discriminate a plurality of power sourcesIssued on: 11/10/1992 Inventor: Sato5532524, Distributed power regulation in a portable computer to optimize heat dissipation and maximize battery run-time for various power modes Issued on: 07/02/1996 Inventor: Townsley, et al.5739667, Control system for charging batteries and electronic apparatus using same Issued on: 04/14/1998 Inventor: Matsuda, et al.5986437, Power supply system for portable electronic devices Issued on: 11/16/1999 Inventor: Lee6035357, IC card compatible with different supply voltages, IC card system comprising the same, and IC for the IC card Issued on: 03/07/2000 Inventor: Sakaki6498957, Power supply control in portable data terminal Issued on: 12/24/2002 Inventor: Umetsu6795302Method and system to determine external power available and fault states Issued on: 09/21/2004 Inventor: Kluth, et al.
