AbstractAn image processing system tiles an image data array. Each tile of image data is processed by applying a family of transform layers to the tile of image data so as to generate successive sets of transform coefficients. Each set of transform coefficients include edge coefficients positioned at outside boundaries of the set of transform coefficients and non-edge coefficients positioned at interior locations of the set of transform coefficients. The transform filters include a short edge transform filter that is applied to image data at boundaries of the tile and to coefficients positioned at and near boundaries of each of the earlier sets of transform coefficients so as to generate the edge coefficients, and a long interior filter that is applied to image data at interior locations of the tile and to coefficients at interior locations of the earlier sets of transform coefficients so as to generate the non-edge coefficients. | InventorsAssigneeApplicationNo. 687467 filed on 10/12/2000US Classes:382/240, Pyramid, hierarchy, or tree structure382/239, Adaptive coding (i.e., changes based upon history, activity, busyness, etc.)382/251, Quantization382/264Lowpass filter (i.e., for blurring or smoothing)Field of Search382/232, IMAGE COMPRESSION OR CODING382/240, Pyramid, hierarchy, or tree structure382/239, Adaptive coding (i.e., changes based upon history, activity, busyness, etc.)382/251, Quantization382/260, Image filter382/263, Highpass filter (i.e., for sharpening or enhancing details)382/264, Lowpass filter (i.e., for blurring or smoothing)382/265, Recursive filter382/266, Edge or contour enhancement382/268, Minimize discontinuities at boundaries of image blocks (i.e., reducing blocking effects or effects of wrap-around)375/240.02, Adaptive375/240.03, Quantization375/240.11, Subband coding375/240.19, Wavelet348/398.1, Subband encoding (e.g., low horizontal/low vertical frequency, low horizontal/high vertical frequency)348/437.1, Individual processing of different parts of image frequency band (e.g., sum and difference, high band/low band)348/438.1Individual processing of different parts of image frequency band (e.g., sum and difference, high band/low band)ExaminersPrimary: Johnson, Timothy M.Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References5025309, Extended definition widescreen television signal processing systemIssued on: 06/18/1991 Inventor: Isnardi5309232, Dynamic bit allocation for three-dimensional subband video coding Issued on: 05/03/1994 Inventor: Hartung, et al.5481308, Method and apparatus for synthesizing subband video images Issued on: 01/02/1996 Inventor: Hartung, et al.5684714, Method and system for a user to manually alter the quality of a previously encoded video sequence Issued on: 11/04/1997 Inventor: Yogeshwar, et al.5926791, Recursively splitting the low-frequency band with successively fewer filter taps in methods and apparatuses for sub-band encoding, decoding, and encoding and decoding Issued on: 07/20/1999 Inventor: Ogata, et al.5977996, Storage device for storing hierarchically coded data and access method thereof Issued on: 11/02/1999 Inventor: Kondo6125143, Picture encoding device and method thereof, picture decoding device and method thereof, and recording medium Issued on: 09/26/2000 Inventor: Suzuki, et al.6141446, Compression and decompression system with reversible wavelets and lossy reconstruction Issued on: 10/31/2000 Inventor: Boliek, et al.6163629, Method for low complexity low memory inverse dithering Issued on: 12/19/2000 Inventor: Cheung, et al.6236757, Joint coding method for images and videos with multiple arbitrarily shaped segments or objects Issued on: 05/22/2001 Inventor: Zeng, et al.6252989, Foveated image coding system and method for image bandwidth reduction Issued on: 06/26/2001 Inventor: Geisler, et al.6282322System and method for compressing and decompressing images Issued on: 08/28/2001 Inventor: Rackett Foreign Patent References
