AbstractAn active electrostatic transceiver is provided that has electrostatic electrodes, an energy storage means such as a battery and a transceiver circuit for communication within an electrostatic RFID communication system. The transceiver circuit includes power management features so that the energy storage means is not quickly depleted. Additionally the transceiver circuit includes amplifiers and filters so that the read range is further increased and noise sources are better filtered out. In a first embodiment, the transceiver circuit has a clock extractor that extracts a clock from the incoming data signal such that the clock and the data signal are synchronized so that demodulating the data from the data signal is simplified. In a second embodiment, the transceiver circuit has its own clock generator for initiating transmission of signals so that a reader need not have an exciter to generate an excitation signal. Each embodiment of the transceiver circuit has power management features so that power is conserved. Additionally, each transceiver circuit has the ability to operate in a passive mode, when there is insufficient charge in the energy storage means or a lower power mode is desirable. | InventorsAssigneeApplicationNo. 226065 filed on 01/05/1999US Classes:455/41.1, Near field (i.e., inductive or capacitive coupling)455/73TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER AT SAME STATION (E.G., TRANSCEIVER)Field of Search455/73, TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER AT SAME STATION (E.G., TRANSCEIVER)455/76, Synthesizer455/77, With tuning455/78, With transmitter-receiver switching or interaction prevention455/82, Common antenna455/83Single antenna switched between transmitter and receiverExaminersPrimary: Eisenzopf, Reinhard J.Assistant: Bhattacharya, Sam Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References5175418, Information card systemIssued on: 12/29/1992 Inventor: Tanaka5426667, System for the contactless exchange of data, and responder for use in such a system Issued on: 06/20/1995 Inventor: van Zon5528222, Radio frequency circuit and memory in thin flexible package Issued on: 06/18/1996 Inventor: Moskowitz, et al.5566441, Attaching an electronic circuit to a substrate Issued on: 10/22/1996 Inventor: Marsh, et al.5682143, Radio frequency identification tag Issued on: 10/28/1997 Inventor: Brady, et al.5724651, Method and apparatus for checking a power supply in a radio receiver Issued on: 03/03/1998 Inventor: Takahashi, et al.5786626, Thin radio frequency transponder with leadframe antenna structure Issued on: 07/28/1998 Inventor: Brady, et al.5847447, Capcitively coupled bi-directional data and power transmission system Issued on: 12/08/1998 Inventor: Rozin, et al.5850187, Integrated electronic tag reader and wireless communication link Issued on: 12/15/1998 Inventor: Carrender, et al.5854480, Tag with IC capacitively coupled to antenna Issued on: 12/29/1998 Inventor: Noto5909463, Single-chip software configurable transceiver for asymmetric communication system Issued on: 06/01/1999 Inventor: Johnson, et al.5914701, Non-contact system for sensing and signalling by externally induced intra-body currents Issued on: 06/22/1999 Inventor: Gersheneld, et al.6001211Method of producing a tag device with IC capacitively coupled to antenna Issued on: 12/14/1999 Inventor: Hiroyuki International ClassH04B 005/00 |
