AbstractAn earring that flashes in synchronism with the wearer's heartbeat. A pulsed IR LED/photocell combination is built into an earring along with a comparator and a visible light-emitting source. The comparator determines when the heart has beat from the variation in the signal from the photocell and transmits a signal to a solid state switch to turn on the visible light-emitting source. Thus, the light emitting source flashes once for each heart beat. In a preferred use of the present invention a lover is able to determine when his or her partner is excited by observing the rate at which the partner's earring flashes. The invention may also be used for medical monitoring of patients. | InventorsApplicationNo. 512050 filed on 02/24/2000US Classes:600/502, Pulse indicator362/104, Jewelry362/571, Jewelry362/800, LIGHT EMITTING DIODE600/500Detecting blood vessel pulsationField of Search362/104, Jewelry362/570, With wearing apparel or body support362/571, Jewelry362/800, LIGHT EMITTING DIODE600/481, Cardiovascular600/500, Detecting blood vessel pulsation600/502, Pulse indicator600/310, Infrared, visible light, or ultraviolet radiation directed on or through body or constituent released therefrom600/323Oxygen saturation, e.g., oximeterExaminersPrimary: Sykes, Angela D.Assistant: Carter, Ryan Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References4296459, Light emitting electronic jewelryIssued on: 10/20/1981 Inventor: DeLuca4791536, Sound responsive lighted earrings Issued on: 12/13/1988 Inventor: James4912608Flickering ornamental device with a variable outer appearance Issued on: 03/27/1990 Inventor: Lee International ClassA61B 005/02 |
