AbstractA portable processing device, such as a laptop computer, includes a time-of-day clock that is dynamically adjusted based upon occurrences of travel among different time zones. An itinerary is stored as a travel schedule of departure and arrival information and is used to identify anticipated multi-zone travel. When there is a coincidence between the clock and the occurrence of an anticipated multi-zone trip, the clock is automatically adjusted. The itinerary may be input via a user interface mechanism, such as a keyboard, may be entered by means of synchronization with a compatible program of a second device, or may be input via a network, such as the Internet. The determination of the relevant time zones preferably utilizes a database and most preferably utilizes an internal database of cities and time differentials among the cities. The dynamic adjustments of the time-of-day clock occur en route, without accessing externally generated signals or external devices. | InventorsApplicationNo. 334779 filed on 06/16/1999US Classes:368/21PLURAL TIME ZONESField of Search368/24, Including illumination means368/25, With movable belt display368/26, With movable drum display368/28, WITH CALENDAR INDICATOR368/22, With manually actuated display368/27, With movable disk display368/21, PLURAL TIME ZONES368/23, With a world globe368/31, Winding and setting368/185, For setting368/186, With rate regulation368/187By electrical device actuationExaminersPrimary: Roskoski, BernardUS Patent References4995020, Timepiece with speed adjustment for time standard change adaptationIssued on: 02/19/1991 Inventor: Mitchell5089814, Automatic time zone adjustment of portable receiver Issued on: 02/18/1992 Inventor: DeLuca, et al.5724316, GPS based time determining system and method Issued on: 03/03/1998 Inventor: Brunts5845257System and methods for scheduling and tracking events across multiple time zones Issued on: 12/01/1998 Inventor: Fu, et al.
