AbstractA general purpose method is provided for interfacing with a storage device having a tape medium. The method includes receiving data from a first source, and creating a first data packet having at least a portion of the data from the first source. The method also includes receiving data from a second source, and creating a second data packet having at least a portion of the data from the second source. The method further includes receiving additional data from the first source, and creating a third data packet having at least a portion of the additional data from the first source. The method still further includes transmitting the first data packet, the second data packet and the third data packet to the storage device, and storing the first data packet, the second data packet, and the third data packet on the tape medium in an interleaved configuration. A system including control logic is also provided for performing the method. | InventorAssigneeApplicationNo. 265269 filed on 03/09/1999US Classes:711/4, Dynamic-type storage device (e.g., disk, tape, drum)707/204, Archiving or backup709/203, Client/server711/147, Shared memory area711/157, Interleaving711/162, Backup711/168, Concurrent accessing714/6Redundant stored data accessed (e.g., duplicated data, error correction coded data, or other parity-type data)Field of Search711/4, Dynamic-type storage device (e.g., disk, tape, drum)711/147, Shared memory area711/157, Interleaving711/168, Concurrent accessing711/162, Backup710/21, Concurrent data transferring710/30, Frame forming710/34, Transferred data counting710/52, Input/Output data buffering710/60, Transfer rate regulation714/6, Redundant stored data accessed (e.g., duplicated data, error correction coded data, or other parity-type data)709/203, Client/server707/204Archiving or backupExaminersPrimary: Nguyen, Hiep T.Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References4761778, Coder-packetizer for random accessing in digital communication with multiple accessingIssued on: 08/02/1988 Inventor: Hui4949245, Intermediate memory system for connecting microcomputers to a rotating disk memory Issued on: 08/14/1990 Inventor: Martin, et al.4964037, Memory addressing arrangement Issued on: 10/16/1990 Inventor: Woods, et al.5212772, System for storing data in backup tape device Issued on: 05/18/1993 Inventor: Masters5274772, Data processing systems having means for selectively combining records into signal blocks for recording in a record medium Issued on: 12/28/1993 Inventor: Dunn, et al.5461720, System for increasing the efficiency of communications between controller and plurality of host computers by prohibiting retransmission of the same message for predetermined period of time Issued on: 10/24/1995 Inventor: Beardsley, et al.5673381System and parallel streaming and data stripping to back-up a network Issued on: 09/30/1997 Inventor: Huai, et al.
