...that in 1800 ether was first used by partyers as a fun diversion? Sniffing the gas led to hilarious and raucous laughter as people watched each other become more and more intoxicated and silly. Several doctors independently realized the value ether would have to anesthetize surgery patients. Of those who claimed rights to the "discovery," none had a happy ending. One had a seizure and died defending his rights. Another spent his life in an asylum because he had been denied acclaim. A third became addicted to chloroform and, in a New York City jail, he soaked a cloth in the drug, severed an artery and bled to death.

AbstractA chelate comprised of creatine bonded to an essential mineral selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Cu, Zn, Fe, Cr, Co, Mo, Se and Mn to form a heterocyclic ring. Preferably, the metal is Mg, but Ca, Zn, Fe, Cr and Mn are also preferred. The creatine chelates of the present invention are capable of being absorbed in the stomach or intestines via active transport without substantial metabolism of the chelate. In other words, the creatine ligand is protected by the metal from undergoing cyclization in the acidic environment of the stomach and the metal is made more bioavailable due to the presence of the creatine ligand. | InventorsAssigneeApplicationNo. 348359 filed on 07/07/1999US Classes:514/492, Heavy metal containing DOAI514/499, Copper514/501, Nickel or cobalt514/502, Iron514/505, Cadmium or chromium556/50, Nitrogen containing556/63, Nitrogen or halogen containing556/116, Nitrogen containing556/134, Nitrogen containing (e.g., zinc ethionates, etc.)556/148, Nitrogen containing (e.g., ferric chelates of ethylenediaminetetracetic acid, etc.)562/899Selenium or tellurium containingField of Search556/50, Nitrogen containing556/63, Nitrogen or halogen containing556/116, Nitrogen containing556/134, Nitrogen containing (e.g., zinc ethionates, etc.)556/148, Nitrogen containing (e.g., ferric chelates of ethylenediaminetetracetic acid, etc.)562/899, Selenium or tellurium containing514/492, Heavy metal containing DOAI514/499, Copper514/501, Nickel or cobalt514/502, Iron514/505Cadmium or chromiumExaminersPrimary: Nazario-Gonzalez, PorfirioAttorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References4020158, Increasing metals in biological tissueIssued on: 04/26/1977 Inventor: Ashmead , et al.4167564, Biological assimilation of metals Issued on: 09/11/1979 Inventor: Jensen4216143, Soluble non-ferrous metal proteinates Issued on: 08/05/1980 Inventor: Ashmead4216144, Soluble iron proteinates Issued on: 08/05/1980 Inventor: Ashmead4599152, Pure amino acid chelates Issued on: 07/08/1986 Inventor: Ashmead4725427, Effervescent vitamin-mineral granule preparation Issued on: 02/16/1988 Inventor: Ashmead , et al.4774089, Stimulation of gonadotropic hormones with mineral mixtures containing amino acid chelates Issued on: 09/27/1988 Inventor: Ashmead4830716, Preparation of pharmaceutical grade amino acid chelates Issued on: 05/16/1989 Inventor: Ashmead4863898, Amino acid chelated compositions for delivery to specific biological tissue sites Issued on: 09/05/1989 Inventor: Ashmead , et al.5162369, Composition and method for enhancing the immune system in warm-blooded animals exhibiting symptoms of antigenic morbidity Issued on: 11/10/1992 Inventor: Ashmead, et al.5397786, Rehydration drink Issued on: 03/14/1995 Inventor: Simone5576316, Method for inhibiting tumor growth rate using creatine or creatine analogs Issued on: 11/19/1996 Inventor: Cohn5888553Non-steroidal anabolic composition Issued on: 03/30/1999 Inventor: Grant, et al.
