AbstractThere is provided a strain-relief, liquid tight for connecting conduit or the like to a bulkhead such as an electrical box, with the connector having a body having front and rear portions, and a substantially hollow inner throughbore formed along a longitudinal axis thereof. The front portion of the connector body is adapted for attachment to a bulkhead. A flexible seal member is mounted at least partially within the hollow inner throughbore for receiving a conduit inserted therethrough, this seal member facilitating a substantially liquid tight seal about an inserted conduit during use. An at least partially hollow grip for selectively gripping the conduit is included, and a clamp nut is telescoped over the rear portion of the body for selective longitudinal adjustment therealong. The longitudinal adjustment of this clamp nut provides inward radial compression of the flexible grip about the conduit. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the grip member comprises a plurality of gripping fingers cantilevered from a ring-like base portion, and the seal member is at least partially disposed within the grip member. A cam surface is provided in the interior of the body, and a compression member on the clamp nut urges the gripping fingers against this cam surface thereby causing the fingers to be compressed radially inward. This results in the conduit being gripped and also enhances the sealing of the seal member about the conduit. | InventorApplicationNo. 133509 filed on 10/07/1993US Classes:174/17.06, Liquid seal174/153R, Opposed wall engaging means285/149.1CONNECTOR FOR CONDUIT HOUSING ELECTROMAGNETIC LINE:Field of Search174/151, Through wall or plate174/17.06, Liquid seal174/153ROpposed wall engaging meansExaminersPrimary: Kincaid, KristineAssistant: Ghosh, Paramita Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References2858358, 3285551, 3352961, 3493205, 3667783, 3788582, 4056252, Strain-relief bushing for cables and the likeIssued on: 11/01/1977 Inventor: Simon4116472, Sealed wall lead-through means for cables in particular for junction boxes Issued on: 09/26/1978 Inventor: Schmitt4157799, Cable grommet with traction relief Issued on: 06/12/1979 Inventor: Simon4234218, Feedthrough device Issued on: 11/18/1980 Inventor: Rogers4250348, Clamping device for cables and the like Issued on: 02/10/1981 Inventor: Kitagawa4358079, Moisture resistant clamp for portable cables Issued on: 11/09/1982 Inventor: Navarro4387267, Device for the fluid-tight anchorage of an electric conducting cable inlet Issued on: 06/07/1983 Inventor: Becker4513172, Clamp fixing device Issued on: 04/23/1985 Inventor: Matsui4738636, Strain relief connectors for flexible cord and cable Issued on: 04/19/1988 Inventor: Bolante4787657, Screw coupling Issued on: 11/29/1988 Inventor: Henniger4814547, Cable connector Issued on: 03/21/1989 Inventor: Riley , et al.4891470, Screw-type cable fitting Issued on: 01/02/1990 Inventor: Studenski5068496, Snap-in connector Issued on: 11/26/1991 Inventor: Favalora5132493Device for connecting non-metallic sheathed cable to an electric box Issued on: 07/21/1992 Inventor: Sheehan International ClassH02G 003/18 |
