AbstractA radar system in which a frequency agile synthesizer is used to provide rapid frequency shifts and in which measures are taken to maintain phase coherency. The system is fully coherent such that all signals are derived from a common source and are capable of high pulse repetition rates in excess of 1 MHz. There are no inherent transmit duty cycle restrictions and the system is able to transmit complex phase and frequency modulated waveforms. A frequency interleaving scheme is used to resolve range ambiguities at high pulse repetition frequencies and the use of a complementary phase coding scheme allows a high range resolution processing with the transmitted waveforms. | InventorsAssigneeApplicationNo. 620363 filed on 03/22/1996US Classes:342/202, For pulse modulation342/62, Missile or spacecraft guidance342/97, With automatic lock-on342/131, Combined with pulse modulation (e.g., frequency agile)342/137, With variable pulse repetition frequency (PRF) or pulse width342/140, With azimuth and elevation determination342/188, With polarization342/194, Complex signal (in phase and quadrature)342/196Fast fourier transform (FFT)Field of Search342/202, For pulse modulation342/62, Missile or spacecraft guidance342/90, Automatic target detection342/97, With automatic lock-on342/131, Combined with pulse modulation (e.g., frequency agile)342/137, With variable pulse repetition frequency (PRF) or pulse width342/140, With azimuth and elevation determination342/141, Off boresight342/162, Digital342/188, With polarization342/194, Complex signal (in phase and quadrature)342/195, Digital processing342/196, Fast fourier transform (FFT)342/201, Combined with pulse modulation342/203With noise reductionExaminersPrimary: Sotomayor, John B.Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References4155088, Dual frequency transmission apparatus for frequency-agile radar systems utilizing MTI techniquesIssued on: 05/15/1979 Inventor: Taylor, Jr. , et al.4194204, High resolution microwave seeker Issued on: 03/18/1980 Inventor: Alpers4338604, Pulsed coherent doppler radar with frequency agility Issued on: 07/06/1982 Inventor: Petitjean4382258, Airborne frequency-modulation radar and its application to a missile homing head Issued on: 05/03/1983 Inventor: Tabourier4593286, Method of operating an agile beam coherent radar Issued on: 06/03/1986 Inventor: Mathews , et al.4665401, Millimeter wave length guidance system Issued on: 05/12/1987 Inventor: Garrard , et al.4851848, Frequency agile synthetic aperture radar Issued on: 07/25/1989 Inventor: Wehner5091730, Pulse radar and components therefor Issued on: 02/25/1992 Inventor: Cardiasmenos, et al.5184136, Pulse radar and components therefor Issued on: 02/02/1993 Inventor: Cardiasmenos5245347, All weather tactical strike system (AWTSS) and method of operation Issued on: 09/14/1993 Inventor: Bonta, et al.5347283Frequency agile radar Issued on: 09/13/1994 Inventor: Krizek, et al.
