AbstractThe invention provides a method and apparatus for controlling the timing at a receiving station for the receipt of asynchronous data transmitted with a time-stamp. The received data is passed through a buffer to the remainder of the station. A decoder at the receiving station generates an indication of buffer fill level and a local time-stamp is also generated. The output timing for the buffer is controlled by a circuit which is responsive to both a difference value off, received and locally generated time-stamps and to the fill level indication. | InventorsAssigneeApplicationNo. 414372 filed on 03/31/1995US Classes:370/516, Adjusting for phase or jitter375/371, Phase displacement, slip or jitter correction375/376Phase locked loopField of Search375/371, Phase displacement, slip or jitter correction375/372, Elastic buffer375/373, Phase locking375/376Phase locked loopExaminersPrimary: Olms, Douglas W.Assistant: Patel, Ajit Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References4811340, Synchronization of asynchronous data signalsIssued on: 03/07/1989 Inventor: McEachern , et al.5260978, Synchronous residual time stamp for timing recovery in a broadband network Issued on: 11/09/1993 Inventor: Fleischer, et al.5272728, Preamble length adjustment method in communication network and independent synchronization type serial data communication device Issued on: 12/21/1993 Inventor: Ogawa5367545, Asynchronous signal extracting circuit Issued on: 11/22/1994 Inventor: Yamashita, et al.5396492Method and apparatus for adaptive clock recovery Issued on: 03/07/1995 Inventor: Lien International ClassH04J 003/06 |
