AbstractA printer mechanism to control pen-to-print medium spacing during printing is described. The preferred embodiment of the mechanism includes a printhead and an adjacent platen. The platen includes differentially yieldable structure adapted to resiliently support the print medium thereby to inhibit uncontrolled bending of the print medium during printing. The yieldable structure preferably extend along a line generally perpendicular to a direction of feed of the print medium. The platen may further include a transition region located adjacent the yieldable structure, the transition region adapted to facilitate smooth transition of the leading edge of the print medium onto the yieldable structure. | InventorsApplicationNo. 203113 filed on 02/28/1994US Classes:400/642, Including sheet guide (e.g., for sheet insertion, etc.)271/209, With means to bow sheets347/8, Of spacing between fluid ejector and receiving medium347/104, Physical handling400/578SHEET OR WEB (E.G., RECORD-MEDIUM FEEDING MECHANISM)Field of Search400/642, Including sheet guide (e.g., for sheet insertion, etc.)400/646, Sheet table at delivery side of platen400/648, PLATEN OR PLATEN-MOVING MECHANISM400/656, Bar (i.e., line size) platen400/611, For feeding web record-medium400/617, By friction-feed means (e.g., reciprocating finger or gripper or pinch roller, etc.)400/578, SHEET OR WEB (E.G., RECORD-MEDIUM FEEDING MECHANISM)400/624, For feeding sheet from stack or pack holder400/619, Including web guiding or aligning (e.g., laterally, relative to print-line, etc.)400/55, INCLUDING ADJUSTMENT FOR OPTIMUM PRINTING PLANE400/56, Responsive to thickness of record-medium400/59, By adjustment of carriage (e.g, carriage-guide rollers)346/134, RECORD RECEIVERS AND/OR DRIVING MEANS THEREFOR271/188, Means to bow sheets during delivery271/209With means to bow sheetsExaminersPrimary: Burr, Edgar S.Assistant: Nguyen, Anthony H.
