AbstractA gaseous fuel injection system has a fuel metering body having a tubular injector chamber with an expansion chamber at one closed end thereof; the expansion chamber having openings for the passage of fuel from the chamber to the exterior of the fuel metering body. Additionally, a spool type silencer is positioned between the expansion chamber and a fuel injector located at the end of the silencer opposite that of the expansion chamber. The silencer has a hollow cylindrical core with an inlet to receive fuel from the injector and a multiplicity of outlets for the passage of the fuel to an outer annular region. The outer annular region has an upper wall for support of the injector within the tubular injector chamber and a lower wall having openings for passage of the fuel from the annular region to the expansion chamber. The central core, the annular region and the expansion chamber cooperate to expand and silence compressed fuel as it moves from the outlet of the injector to the exterior of the fuel metering body. | InventorsAssigneeApplicationNo. 212485 filed on 03/11/1994US Classes:123/472, Electrically actuated injector123/527, Gaseous fuel and air mixer181/229, Carburetor, burner, or compressor intake silencer239/533.12, With discharge modifier*239/585.1Electromagnetically operated valve (e.g., ball-type)Field of Search123/472, Electrically actuated injector123/527, Gaseous fuel and air mixer239/585.1, Electromagnetically operated valve (e.g., ball-type)239/533.12, With discharge modifier*181/229Carburetor, burner, or compressor intake silencerExaminersPrimary: Nelli, Raymond A.Assistant: Solis, Erick Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References4347823, Throttle body injection apparatus with distribution skirtIssued on: 09/07/1982 Inventor: Kessler , et al.4572436, Electromagnetic fuel injector with tapered armature/valve Issued on: 02/25/1986 Inventor: Stettner , et al.4819873, Method and apparatus for combusting fuel in a pulse combustor Issued on: 04/11/1989 Inventor: Lockwood, Jr.4936413, In-line noise attenuation device for a gas conduit Issued on: 06/26/1990 Inventor: Lee4953789, Arrangement for the metered supply of a fuel, especially into the combustion space of an internal combustion engine Issued on: 09/04/1990 Inventor: Strobl, et al.4958773, Fuel injection Issued on: 09/25/1990 Inventor: Stettner, et al.4958774, Fuel injection Issued on: 09/25/1990 Inventor: Taylor4969536, Turbocharger noise silencer Issued on: 11/13/1990 Inventor: Allen5035211, Internal combustion engine Issued on: 07/30/1991 Inventor: Mate, et al.5163387, Device for attenuating standing waves in an induction intake system Issued on: 11/17/1992 Inventor: Lee5196653, Muffler for air powered turbine drive Issued on: 03/23/1993 Inventor: Kiss5201299, Rotary gaseous fuel injector Issued on: 04/13/1993 Inventor: Kong5203305, Apparatus and methods for converting conventionally fueled engines to operate on an alternative fuel Issued on: 04/20/1993 Inventor: Porter, et al.5237981Fuel injection apparatus for vehicles Issued on: 08/24/1993 Inventor: Polletta, et al.
