AbstractA nonreusable medical device has a needle for injecting or collecting fluid which is retractable by depression of a plunger slidingly mounted in the medical device. A front-mounted retraction mechanism has a needle holder connected to the needle. The needle holder is supported along the axis of the device by means of a frictionally engaged retainer ring member coupled to the needle holder along an axially aligned sliding interface. The needle holder and retainer ring are positioned in the front portion of a hollow body. The front of a movable member or plunger presses against the retainer member passing around the needle holder which cannot move forward, thereby separating the retainer member from the needle holder. The separation occurs by gradually reducing the extent of the sliding interface area until the retainer member pops loose from the needle holder whereupon the needle holder and needle are retracted into a cavity in the plunger in response to a retraction force applied to the needle holder by a previously compressed spring. | InventorApplicationNo. 125292 filed on 09/22/1993US Classes:604/110, Having means for preventing reuse of device604/195Portion of body entering conduit stored in material receiving syringe reservoirField of Search604/110, Having means for preventing reuse of device604/195, Portion of body entering conduit stored in material receiving syringe reservoir604/187, Injector or aspirator syringe supported only by person during use (e.g., hand held hypodermic syringe, douche tube with forced injection, etc.)604/198, Cover or protector for body entering conduit movable axially relative to one another604/218With piston or plunger for expelling material from body or injector reservoirExaminersPrimary: Yasko, John D.Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References3306290, 4747831, Cannula insertion set with safety retracting needleIssued on: 05/31/1988 Inventor: Kulli4838863, Safe needle system for collecting fluids Issued on: 06/13/1989 Inventor: Allard , et al.4838869, Retractable needle syringe Issued on: 06/13/1989 Inventor: Allard4841985, Blood drawing apparatus Issued on: 06/27/1989 Inventor: Wanamaker4874382, Safety syringe Issued on: 10/17/1989 Inventor: Lindemann, et al.4904242, Phlebotomy set with safety retracting needle Issued on: 02/27/1990 Inventor: Kulli4955870, Hypodermic syringe with retractable needle Issued on: 09/11/1990 Inventor: Ridderheim, et al.4994034, Retractable needle hypodermic syringe system Issued on: 02/19/1991 Inventor: Botich, et al.5019044, Safety hypodermic syringe Issued on: 05/28/1991 Inventor: Tsao5046508, Syringe with retractable needle Issued on: 09/10/1991 Inventor: Weissler5049133, Single-use safety syringe Issued on: 09/17/1991 Inventor: Villen Pascual5053010, Safety syringe with retractable needle Issued on: 10/01/1991 Inventor: McGary, et al.5064419, Disposable hypodermic syringe Issued on: 11/12/1991 Inventor: Gaarde5084029, Syringe which automatically make the hypodermic needle harmless after use Issued on: 01/28/1992 Inventor: Nacci nee Tagliaferri, et al.5092853, Automatic retractable medical needle and method Issued on: 03/03/1992 Inventor: Couvertier, II5114410, Disposable hypodermic syringe Issued on: 05/19/1992 Inventor: Caralt Batlle5120310, Nonreusable syringe Issued on: 06/09/1992 Inventor: Shaw5188599, Retractable needle system Issued on: 02/23/1993 Inventor: Botich, et al.5201710Syringe fitted with a clamping device for the needle and with means to enable the needle to be automatically retractable into the syringe body at the end of an injection Issued on: 04/13/1993 Inventor: Caselli Foreign Patent References
