AbstractA method of locating properly and comfortably a protective helmet on the head of a person. A fit, locating and comfort band is mounted around the persons head, namely adjacent the ears and the back of the head and over the forehead. Thereafter, a protective plastic helmet having a foam lining is mounted over the band as a separate and distinct operation. The method further comprises employing a harness above the band to aid in keeping it in place while the helmet is subsequently mounted, and to protect the top of the head from discomfort caused by a central foam element of the helmet. The apparatus comprises the band and harness and helmet employed in combination with each other, but with no need for the band or harness to be connected to the helmet. In accordance with another aspect of the method and apparatus, an inflatable bladder is employed to aid in maintaining the band and helmet in the desired positions. | InventorsApplicationNo. 970618 filed on 11/03/1992US Classes:2/410, For wearer's head2/181, With sweats or other supplementary head engaging member2/417, Including adjustment for wearer's head size2/425Sport headgearField of Search2/410, For wearer's head2/411, Including energy-absorbing means2/412, By diverse laminae2/413, By fluid-containing cushion2/414, By interior pads2/416, By suspension rigging2/417, Including adjustment for wearer's head size2/418, For circumference of crown2/419, And height of crown2/420, By plural-part rigging2/422, With article-attaching means2/425, Sport headgear2/181, With sweats or other supplementary head engaging member2/183, Head size adjustment2/181.6With perforated or slotted sweat or head engaging memberExaminersPrimary: Crowder, Clifford D.Assistant: Neas, Michael A.
