AbstractMedical instrument for implantation of radioactive seeds in a body, the instrument including an elongated support rod and an elongated stylet rod spaced apart from and parallel to the support rod, and being held in that relationship by a stop block and a slide block spaced apart from each other and longitudinally slidable with respect to both the support rod and the stylet rod. The stop block is attached to the support rod and the slide block is clampable to each of the support rod and the stylet rod. A seed cartridge with transverse spaced passageways and a central longitudinal through bore receives, stores, and discharges a plug of spaced radio-active seeds by the stylet rod through a connectible hollow elongated implantation needle through which the plug may be implanted in body tissue.
Field of SearchRADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCE APPLIED TO BODY FOR THERAPY
Combined with other radiant or wave energy source (e.g., electromagnetic, thermal, microwave etc.)
Radioactive substance placed within body (e.g., inhaled, implanted, injected, etc.)
By fluid injection of radioactive or enhancing agent through body piercing conduit
Fluid reservoir shielding (e.g., syringe)
Utero-vaginal or pelvic application
Injectors/holders for seeds or implants (e.g., capsules)
Solid ejected from body inserted conduit
Eject means moved by force applied to trigger associated with pistol grip
Solid units successively fed to conduit from supply means (e.g., magazine, etc.)
Eject means driven by spring
Solid loaded into injector through opening in side wall of plunger housing
Means for ejecting solid from holder
Ejector moved into operating position from stored location inside or alongside inserting means
Ejector pivoted or swung into operating position
Tubular inserting means releasably interlocked with ejector
