...that while attempting to develop a super strong glue, 3M employee Spencer Silver accidentally developed a glue that was so weak it would barely hold two pieces of paper together? However, his colleague Art Fry needed the glue. Fry sang with his church choir and marked the pages of his hymnal with small scraps of paper that often fell out. He used Silver's glue to hold the papers in place. Today we call this invention Post-it Notes.

AbstractA collimator apparatus (10 or 100) including one or more bundles of nested rods (11, 11a or 101 or 101a or 201) which define a surface (112, 112a) which interferes with a beam of radiation is described. The apparatus particularly uses coil spring (48) between and along the axis (a--a or c--c) of the rods which are compressed by blocks (13, 14, 13a and 14a or 103, 104, 103a and 104a) to lock the rods in position in holes in the blocks. The apparatus is particularly useful for shaping radiation beams for patient treatment. | InventorsApplicationNo. 06/896730 filed on 08/15/1986US Classes:250/505.1, RADIATION CONTROLLING MEANS378/152With linear leaf motionField of Search250/505.1RADIATION CONTROLLING MEANSExaminersPrimary: Anderson, Bruce C.Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References1909118, 3543384, 4053808, Electron beam collimatorIssued on: 10/11/1977 Inventor: Peacock4158779, X-ray shield Issued on: 06/19/1979 Inventor: Rommel , et al.4463266, Neutron collimator Issued on: 07/31/1984 Inventor: Brahme4534052Block for partially limiting a radiation beam, and a collimator comprising such blocks Issued on: 08/06/1985 Inventor: Milcamps International ClassesG21K 1/02 (20060101)A61N 5/10 (20060101) G21K 1/04 (20060101) |
