AbstractA dual action agitator for use in a washing machine utilizes a one-way dog clutch having a plurality of dogs made of elastomeric material and pivotally mounted in a cam. The dogs pivot outward to engage an inner surface of an upper agitator barrel to drive the agitator barrel in a first direction during a first oscillatory stroke of a lower agitator skirt, and the dogs pivot away from the inner surface as the lower agitator skirt oscillates in a second opposite direction resulting in unidirectional movement of the agitator barrel to impart additional mechanical motion to a wash load and promote rollover. | InventorsApplicationNo. 06/848935 filed on 04/07/1986US Classes:68/133, Bottom drive192/35, Pilot mechanism192/46, Positive74/126Oscillation or reciprocation to intermittent unidirectional motionExaminersPrimary: Coe, Philip R.Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent ReferencesRe12030, 70059, 628249, 1473564, 1960004, 1969368, 2129566, 3667307, 3678714, 3987508, Method of washing clothesIssued on: 10/26/1976 Inventor: Platt3987651, Combined oscillating and unidirectional agitator for automatic washer Issued on: 10/26/1976 Inventor: Platt3987652, Unidirectional agitation accessory for automatic washer Issued on: 10/26/1976 Inventor: Ruble4155228, One-way clutch for auger agitator Issued on: 05/22/1979 Inventor: Burgener, Jr. , et al.4164130, One-way clutch for double-acting agitator Issued on: 08/14/1979 Inventor: Hammer4452054, Agitator thruster for an automatic washer Issued on: 06/05/1984 Inventor: Hafstrom4520638Triple action agitator for automatic washers Issued on: 06/04/1985 Inventor: Brenner International ClassD06F 13/00 (20060101) |
