AbstractA muffler connected to an exhaust system of an automotive or like internal combustion engine for damping noise, which accompanies engine exhaust, using a sound absorbing member. An intertwined meshwork in a tubular configuration serves as means for covering and firmly retaining the sound absorbing member, which is wound around a perforated pipe, on the outer periphery of the perforated pipe. The tubular meshwork is produced by intertwining in a desired density strings each of which is made up of a number of strands. | InventorAssigneeApplicationNo. 06/667720 filed on 11/02/1984US Classes:181/252, With sound absorbing material181/256, With sound absorbing material181/265, Retroverted181/272Plural chambersField of Search181/231, With solid particle separator (e.g., spark arrestor, vacuum cleaner, etc.)181/244, Corrosion prevention181/255, Expansion chamber181/248, Continuous conduit181/258, Pervious material interposed in flow path181/257, And multi-passage181/249, With expansion chamber181/251, And multi-passage181/254, Valve controlled181/253, With muffler bypass181/252, With sound absorbing material181/250, And side branch181/256, With sound absorbing material181/264, With baffle or baffle structure181/265, Retroverted181/268, Multi-passage181/272, Plural chambers181/275And multi-passageExaminersPrimary: Fuller, Benjamin R.Attorney, Agent or FirmUS Patent References3166382, 3960509, Catalytic mufflerIssued on: 06/01/1976 Inventor: Abriany4360076, Muffler Issued on: 11/23/1982 Inventor: Suyama4421202Sound attenuator Issued on: 12/20/1983 Inventor: Hoy International ClassesF01N 1/02 (20060101)F01N 1/04 (20060101) F01N 1/24 (20060101) F01N 1/00 (20060101) Foreign Application Priority Data1984-04-06 JP |
