Each extending finger is flat at its engaging end with the package, the narrow edges of which are rounded in cross section, with its longitudinal axis initially perpendicular to the top of the folded seam strip. The fingers are driven down and out to flatten the top edges and form an elongated seam strip whereafter the welding jaws, driven synchronously with the movement of the fingers, seal and strip the seam strip off the extending fingers. | |
