Even at very small hydrogen peroxide concentrations, solutions remain bactericidal over prolonged periods such as 1-2 years. Mucine used is porcine gastric mucine or bovine salivary mucine or--to adjust the polar/non-polar properties--a mixture of both. The pronounced lubricating effect, combined with suitable viscosity, low surface tension and ability to coat and protect mucous membranes renders the solutions well suited as artificial salivas, ophthalmic solutions, and carriers for medicaments.Other References
