Abstract

Removal of NOx and SOx from waste gases is carried out by irradiation of the gas with ionizing radiation at a dose such as to reduce the content of NOx and SOx to a first predetermined level and passing such gas through subsequent irradiating stages with the dose of irradiation of the gas in the last stage being determined by the levels of NOx and SOx entering said last stage whereby to reduce such contaminants to desired levels and thereafter passing the gas through an aerosol collector.
