The access chamber is formed between a cellular unit and a covering layer of concrete. The access chamber has at least one inlet opening communicating with a raceway presented by the cellular unit; and an outlet opening providing access to the chamber from the space above the concrete. An unobtrusive strip of fire-resistant material, disposed within the chamber, covers substantially entirely all of the bottom portion and obstructs the inlet opening. The strip shields the upper portion of the chamber from heat transfer by convection and by radiation.
