AbstractBrake pad backing plates are provided with protrusions at either end and a stationary member straddling the disc is provided with two sets of guide surfaces for supporting the backing plates. When the pads wear excessively, the backing plates shift toward the disc and fall into the lower set of guide surfaces to generate a warning sound either electrically or mechanically.
