...that several people are credited with the invention of the flush toilet? Most people have heard of Thomas Crapper (1837-1910), the sanitary engineer who invented the valve-and-siphon arrangement that made the modern toilet possible. Another claimant to "the throne" was British inventor Alexander Cumming who patented a toilet in 1775. Then there's a nameless Minoan (a native of ancient Crete) who lived 4,000 years ago who supposedly was ahead of his time and created the first flush toilet!

| 3995501 | Shear and compression wave testing and measuring device A new location arrangement is made of a shear transducer in a transducer sonic velocity apparatus, as for core testing, in which a shear transducer is placed between or next to a contact piece and a compression transducer so that loading of the shear gene... | 12/07/1976 |
| 3994154 | Ultrasonic pulse-echo thickness and velocity measuring apparatus In a pulse-echo ultrasonic circuit an ultrasonic search signal is periodically transmitted into a workpiece. The ensuing pair of echo signals (entrant and rear surface reflection respectively) are fed to a timing circuit for providing a timing signal resp... | 11/30/1976 |
| 3987674 | Transducer structure and support for fluid measuring device Transducers are positioned on opposite sides of a fluid conduit and are longitudinally displaced from one another along the axis of the conduit. Each transducer contains a transmitting and receiving transducer element which produces output energy in a dir... | 10/26/1976 |
| 3978712 | Method and apparatus for testing wear, size and residual stress conditions Wheel testing apparatus according to the invention comprises at least one search unit positioned "in-track" replacing a portion of a rail so that the gauged wheels of a passing railroad train roll thereover. Each search unit has a thin vertical rail align... | 09/07/1976 |
| 3977252 | Method and apparatus for controlling liquid pressure in pipelines An apparatus and method for controlling liquid pressure in pipelines wherein the apparatus comprises an ultrasonic measuring converter including an ultrasonic emitter and an ultrasonic receiver mounted on the outer surface of the pipeline; a measuring uni... | 08/31/1976 |
| 3973430 | Water pollution monitor A system for detecting the concentration of hydrocarbons (petroleum products) or other pollutants in water having a differential sound velocimeter which compares the velocity of sound in the liquid under study with the velocity of sound in the liquid (lar... | 08/10/1976 |
| 3952578 | Scanning ultrasonic spectrograph for fluid analysis An apparatus for time delay acoustic spectrographic analysis of fluid composition uses frequency modulated ultrasonic vibrations which are transmitted through the fluid from a sending transducer to a receiving transducer.
