...Chester Carlson was a patent agent who tired of having to make multiple copies of patent applications using the only duplication method available at the time: carbon paper. In 1959 he came up with a new copying system and took it to IBM for evaluation. The "experts" at IBM determined potential sales to be only 5,000 units because people wouldn't want to use a bulky machine when they had carbon paper. Carlson's invention was the xerography process, the company founded on the system is Xerox.

Pressure transducer cross-check system A pressure transducer cross-check system (10) in which a pair of low precision pressure transducers (12, 14) which detect parameters related to each other in content are alternately periodically calibrated during the operation of the system by cross-check... | 07/20/1982
Thrust measuring test stand A test stand for measuring the thrust produced by a jet engine includes a base and a floating frame having the engine connected thereto, with the floating frame being disposed in spaced, parallel relationship to said base. The base and floating frame are ... | 05/11/1982
Method and system of controlling a jet engine for avoiding engine surge A jet engine is controlled by placing time variant total pressure probes at the entry plane and the discharge plane of a jet engine fan. The pressure values at the probes are converted into electrical signals, filtered, and then fed to meters where the ro... | 12/19/1978
Take-off warning system for aircraft A logic controlled take-off warning system having a circuit for enabling the logic controlled take-off warning system at engine thrust levels exceeding a predetermined value which is less than minimum take-off thrust of the aircraft and greater than trust... | 10/17/1978
Apparatus for determining characteristics of turbo-powered airplane engine simulators This invention relates to apparatus for accurately determining the characteristics of turbo-powered simulators. The apparatus provides for the determination of the air flow through the turbine of the simulator, the air flow through the fan section, and th... | 07/12/1977
Automatic performance reserve (APR) system having means indicative of system armed condition A logic controlled APR system including arming logic, engine failure detection circuits, and test circuit means for testing system operating condition without engine operation. The logic controlled APR system detects an engine failure in a multi-engine ai... | 07/12/1977
Thrust malalignment measurement apparatus Apparatus for suspending a rocket vertically in a three degree gimbal which nly restrains the thrust vector. The gimbal will accomodate rotation of the attitude (thrust) vector in the pitch, yaw and roll planes. The attitude vector (orientation, velocity, ... | 05/31/1977
Thrust correlated engine pressure ratio indicator and method for turbofan engines with mixer-type nozzles A pneumatic computing device is disclosed for use with turbofan engines having mixer-type nozzles, in which both turbine and fan discharge pressures are tapped and pneumatically combined to derive a pressure equal to a weighted average thereof for applica... | 01/18/1977
