...that two musicians were responsible for the invention of color print film? Fascinated by photography, Leopold Godowsky and Leopold Mannes worked together to produce an easy-to-use, practical color film. They worked full time as music teachers and gave concerts while experimenting during their off hours in Mannes' kitchen. Their success earned them full-time, well-paying jobs at Kodak and their efforts resulted in Kodachrome film, which was introduced in 1935.

Methods of making a current-perpendicular-to-the-planes (CPP) type sensor by ion milling to the spacer layer using a mask without undercuts In one particular example, a plurality of CPP type sensor layers are formed over a wafer and a mask without undercuts is formed over the plurality of CPP type sensor layers in a central region. With the mask without undercuts in place, an ion milling process is star... | 04/01/2008
Three terminal magnetic sensor (TTM) having a metal layer formed in-plane and in contact with the base region for reduced base resistance A three terminal magnetic sensor (TTM) has a base region, a collector region which is adjacent the base region, an emitter region, and a barrier region which separates the emitter region from the base region. A sensing plane is defined along sides of the base region... | 02/26/2008
Method of making a read sensor while protecting it from electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage A method of making a read sensor while protecting it from electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage involves forming a severable shunt during the formation of the read sensor. The method may include forming a resist layer over a plurality of read sensor layers; performin... | 11/06/2007
Three terminal magnetic sensor having an in-stack longitudinal biasing layer structure in the collector or emitter region In one illustrative example, a three terminal magnetic sensor (TTM) suitable for use in a magnetic head has a base region, a collector region, and an emitter region. A first barrier layer is located between the emitter region and the base region, and a second barrie... | 08/21/2007
Method of providing protection to the pole piece of a magnetic head during its manufacture with use of a selectively etchable material A method of making a magnetic head involves providing a partially constructed magnetic head which has a top surface formed by a front P2 pole tip, a back gap P2 pedestal, and insulator materials disposed between the front P2 pole tip and the bac... | 02/13/2007
Spin valve sensor having one of two AP pinned layers made of cobalt In one illustrative example of the invention, a spin valve sensor includes a free layer structure; an antiparallel (AP) pinned layer structure; and a non-magnetic electrically conductive spacer layer in between the free layer structure and the AP pinned layer struct... | 12/05/2006
Spin valve sensor having an antiparallel (AP) self-pinned layer structure comprising cobalt for high magnetostriction In one illustrative embodiment of the invention, a spin valve sensor of a magnetic head has a free layer structure; an antiparallel (AP) self-pinned layer structure; and a non-magnetic electrically conductive spacer layer in between the free layer structure and the ... | 10/10/2006
Thin differential spin valve sensor having both pinned and self pinned structures for reduced difficulty in AFM layer polarity setting A dual/differential spin valve sensor of a magnetic head includes a first spin valve having an antiparallel (AP) “pinned” layer structure and a second spin valve having an AP “self-pinned” layer structure. The AP pinned layer structure has a magnetization di... | 10/03/2006
