...Chester Carlson was a patent agent who tired of having to make multiple copies of patent applications using the only duplication method available at the time: carbon paper. In 1959 he came up with a new copying system and took it to IBM for evaluation. The "experts" at IBM determined potential sales to be only 5,000 units because people wouldn't want to use a bulky machine when they had carbon paper. Carlson's invention was the xerography process, the company founded on the system is Xerox.

Method of making a radio frequency identification tag The invention is a radiofrequency identification tag comprising a semiconductor chip having radio frequency, logic, and memory circuits, and an antenna that are mounted on a substrate. The antenna may be used by the chip to modulate an incident RF signal ... | 10/26/1999
Radio frequency identification system with write broadcast capability A Write Broadcast system and method uses a base station to write sent data associated with no particular destination tag or tags, by radio frequency signal, to all or some selected number (sub group) of tags in a base station field simultaneously. By unse... | 08/24/1999
Radio frequency identification transponder with electronic circuit enabling/disabling capability An RF tag has an enable/disable circuit connected to a critical part of an electronic object/circuit, e.g. a computer mother board. The critical part of the circuit is any circuit component and/or connection that can enable and/or disable the electric cir... | 02/23/1999
System having automatic insertion of hooks into object-oriented software for visualizing execution thereof Object-oriented system methods are automatically instrumented with method hooks that are capable of generating graphical information that can be visualized on a graphical interface. When a method hook is run, it can indicate the occurrence of: an object i... | 11/03/1998
Method of making a thin radio frequency transponder Manufacturing of a novel thin and flexible radio frequency (RF) tag with a stamped metal leadframe antenna is disclosed. The tag is made by transporting a leadframe strip having leadframe antenna "cutouts" to a point where a chip is mechanically and elect... | 10/27/1998
System and method for selecting a subset of autonomous and independent slave entities A master entity is capable of broadcasting commands to a plurality of three-state-selection machine slaves. Transitions from one state to another are effected on instruction from commands in a sequence of commands broadcast from the master. Slaves move to... | 10/27/1998
Communication channels through electrically conducting enclosures via frequency selective windows Communication of information between the inside and the outside of an electrically conducting enclosure is performed through the use of a frequency selective surface on the electrically conducting enclosure, which permits passage of electromagnetic waves ... | 06/16/1998
Video display and control of multiple graphical interfaces Windows, icons, or TV channel selections can be conveniently moved between multiple monitors controlled by a single device such as a computer. The monitors may be cathode ray tubes (CRTs) for liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Inter-monitor movement is achie... | 10/28/1997
Radio frequency identification tag A radiofrequency identification tag has a semiconductor chip with radio frequency circuit, logic, memory circuits, and further includes an antenna that is mounted on a substrate. The antenna may be used by the chip to modulate an incident RF signal to tra... | 10/28/1997
Receiver apparatus and method for frequency tagging The present invention is a system and method for resolving closely spaced frequencies in frequency patterns used to tag objects. The system comprises a base station transceiver and one or more objects that send the base station a unique frequency pattern ... | 11/12/1996
Discrimination of malicious changes to digital information using multiple signatures The present system and method uses information about digital information (objects) to determine whether or not changes to the objects were caused by a normal system operation or by a malicious program. The invention uses a reference separation algorithm t... | 11/05/1996
Curve and surface smoothing without shrinkage The present invention smooths piece-wise linear shapes by defining neighborhoods of vertices around vertices of the shape. One or more vectors is defined between the vertex and each of its neighbors. Vector sums are alternately multiplied by one of two sc... | 04/09/1996
Volume rendering method which increases apparent opacity of semitransparent objects in regions having higher specular reflectivity Portions showing greater specular reflection of an object to be displayed are displayed with pixels whose opacity, 댑, is emphasized according to the specular reflected component of a shading model, in which case the specular reflected co... | 03/12/1996
