...that several people are credited with the invention of the flush toilet? Most people have heard of Thomas Crapper (1837-1910), the sanitary engineer who invented the valve-and-siphon arrangement that made the modern toilet possible. Another claimant to "the throne" was British inventor Alexander Cumming who patented a toilet in 1775. Then there's a nameless Minoan (a native of ancient Crete) who lived 4,000 years ago who supposedly was ahead of his time and created the first flush toilet!

4889620In place gas cleaning of diffusion elements
Cleaning of multi-pore diffusion elements in place with cleaning gases while submerged in liquid media by applying said cleaning gases intermittently or continuously to said diffusion elements between predetermined limits of operating pressure and flow th...
12/26/1989
4451373Ring channel aeration apparatus and method
In a ring channel aeration system, circulation is provided by one or more hydraulic jumps while the major portion of the energy consumed in aeration is allocated to the release of oxidative process gas through horizontally non-propulsive bubble release me...

4294696Swing diffuser
A swing diffuser apparatus for gas diffuser systems for liquid treatment is disclosed in which an array of diffusers (50) is movable between a deeply submerged, essentially horizontal operating position, a shallowly submerged, essentially horizontal opera...
10/13/1981
4288395Diffusion element with boundary zone treatment
Gas diffusion elements, formed of a body of solid particles which have been shaped, pressed and rendered coherent by bonding or sintering in a compacted form having pores, are disclosed. Said elements include a peripheral, annular zone of relatively small...
09/08/1981
4288394Sewage aeration system
A sewage aeration system comprising a header pipe, plenums of synthetic thermoplastic or thermoset resin with side walls inclined upwardly and outwardly to diffusion element support means, generally horizontal diffusion elements free of through-holes othe...
09/08/1981
4261933Diffusion element
Gas diffusion elements, formed of a body of solid particles which has been shaped, pressed and rendered coherent by bonding or sintering in a compacted form having pores, and having an enhanced apparent volumetric compression ratio in a central zone there...

4198299Microscreen method and apparatus
Drop-back of solids into the drum pool of a rotary microscreen is reduced by applying a limited gas pressure differential across an unsubmerged portion of the screen cloth. The pressure is not for the purpose of increasing the driving force, ƊH, of the l...
04/15/1980
4012470Sewage treatment aeration systems
An aeration system for a sewage treatment tank including headers having connectors longitudinally spaced along the header, the connectors being adapted to receive air diffusers; means supporting the header horizontally in a tank; and means for rotating th...
03/15/1977
3979289Filtration method
Filtration in an internal rotary filter system is improved by externally impacting the filter screen as it rotates with a programmed spray of liquid that is varied from a relatively low to a relatively high pressure. In certain instances, this programmed ...
