Icon_funbox Did You Know...

...that while attempting to develop a super strong glue, 3M employee Spencer Silver accidentally developed a glue that was so weak it would barely hold two pieces of paper together? However, his colleague Art Fry needed the glue. Fry sang with his church choir and marked the pages of his hymnal with small scraps of paper that often fell out. He used Silver's glue to hold the papers in place. Today we call this invention Post-it Notes.

6219776Merged array controller and processing element
A highly parallel data processing system includes an array of n processing elements (PEs) and a controller sequence processor (SP) wherein at least one PE is combined with the controller SP to create a Dynamic Merged Processor (DP) which supports two mode...

6216223Methods and apparatus to dynamically reconfigure the instruction pipeline of an indirect very long instruction word scalable processor
A ManArray processor pipeline design addresses an indirect VLIW memory access problem without increasing branch latency by providing a dynamically reconfigurable instruction pipeline for SIWs requiring a VLIW to be fetched. By introducing an additional cy...

6173389Methods and apparatus for dynamic very long instruction word sub-instruction selection for execution time parallelism in an indirect very long instruction word processor
A pipelined data processing unit includes an instruction sequencer and n functional units capable of executing n operations in parallel. The instruction sequencer includes a random access memory for storing very-long-instruction-words (VLIWs) used in oper...

6167502Method and apparatus for manifold array processing
A manifold array topology includes processing elements, nodes, memories or the like arranged in clusters. Clusters are connected by cluster switch arrangements which advantageously allow changes of organization without physical rearrangement of processing...

6167501Methods and apparatus for manarray PE-PE switch control
Processing element to processing element switch connection control is described using a receive model that precludes communication hazards from occurring in a synchronous MIMD mode of operation. Such control allows different communication topologies and v...

6151668Methods and apparatus for efficient synchronous MIMD operations with iVLIW PE-to-PE communication
A SIMD machine employing a plurality of parallel processor (PEs) in which communications hazards are eliminated in an efficient manner. An indirect Very Long Instruction Word instruction memory (VIM) is employed along with execute and delimiter instructio...

6101592Methods and apparatus for scalable instruction set architecture with dynamic compact instructions
A hierarchical instruction set architecture (ISA) provides pluggable instruction set capability and support of array processors. The term pluggable is from the programmer's viewpoint and relates to groups of instructions that can easily be added to a proc...

6023753Manifold array processor
An array processor includes processing elements arranged in clusters which are, in turn, combined in a rectangular array. Each cluster is formed of processing elements which preferably communicate with the processing elements of at least two other cluster...
